My coaching experience

I was among the beneficiaries of a free coaching program organized by an international organization, in partnership with the comic company I write for. Prior to the emergence of this opportunity, I have never experienced a coaching session. I figured it's same as therapy, which I know is important, but have never really been interested in.

This time, I decided to take up the opportunity (maybe I was incentivized by it being free) and keep an open mind. Coaching isn't the same as therapy, albeit their goals being on the same spectrum. Both of them are intended to make you a better version of yourself at the end of the day. However, while therapy is a bit more precise, coaching could be broader. With coaching, you really determine what area of your life you intend to improve as opposed to the problem finding and resolution method of therapy.

Anyway, I've had four sessions now and I can testify that it's been amazing. I'm not one who likes to open up to people, so the first session was actually awkward - credit to my coach for sticking through. Subsequent sessions though have been a whole lot better. While I'm still not gung-ho on sharing feelings, I have come to appreciate its importance.

I have also come to realize things about myself I wouldn't have taken notice of before. For example, I have always worried that my career has been slow and inconsistent. To my pleasant surprise, I have come to realize that it's moving at a steady pace, and my growth is evident. This I came to know just by responding to certain questions. The last session brought its own revelations - why my relationships with people are the way they are, what I think about meeting new people, and how the lessions from my professional life can be applied to my personal life. Again, amazing stuff! It's refreshing, and I do feel like a bimbo for not considering something like this before. There are a lot of hidden gems in areas which we would naturally overlook as individuals.

So by now, you might wonder why I am telling you this. No other reason than the fact that I felt like sharing with my Twocents family - see this as a personal experiment. If I may just become the champion of opening up. Also, you never know who could be inspired by this short piece. If it's you, you're welcome. Live long and prosper.
